Annual Giving

Please consider the Library for your annual charitable donation!

The Annual Fund is a key source of expendable support that impacts virtually every aspect of library operations.  Gifts to the Annual Fund will:

  • Provide for expanded collections - fiction, non-fiction, audio books, eBooks, and more

  • Expand library programming

  • Enhance resource access

  • Support our areas of greatest need

Why give to the Annual Fund?

There are so many reasons to give - here are just a few:

  • You think our mission to promote literacy and lifelong learning to people of all ages is a good return on your investment.

  • You know that our library depends on Annual Fund support because limited public funding provides only a fraction of the dollars required to cover yearly operating expenses.

  • You want to give back to the library because the library has given so much to you.

  • You love the Shepherdstown Public Library!

We are a tax-deductible organization.  Even a small gift goes a long way - you can designate your contribution to support what matters most to you, or you can rely on us to allocate your gift where it is most needed.  Whatever the amount, your support will serve to educate, entertain and enrich the lives of our citizens.

Every gift matters.

Honorarium or Memorial Gift

You may choose to honor or memorialize someone special to you by making a gift in their name.  Should you elect to make a memorial gift, please include the honoree's name and address so that we may notify that person of your kindness.  In the case of a deceased honoree, please also include the name(s) and address of the family member(s) to whom you would like an acknowledgement sent.  Your gift will be acknowledged with a tax appropriate letter, and notification will be sent to the honoree or honoree's family that will include your name and address but not the gift amount.

Every gift matters.

Planned Giving

What will your legacy be?

You can make a bequest to the Shepherdstown Public Library for a percentage of your estate or a specific dollar amount.  You can designate your bequest for general use, or you can restrict its use.  You may also establish an endowment that will honor the memory of a family member or loved one - these endowments will live forever since only the investment income is used annually.

Residuary bequests are used to give all or a portion of the rest, residue and remainder of your estate after payment of expenses and any specific amounts designated to other beneficiaries.

Specific bequests are used to make a gift of a specific dollar amount or specific assets, such as securities, real estate or personal property.

If you would like to consider the Shepherdstown Public Library in your estate plans, please contact us.  There are many advantages to this form of giving, including a considerable charitable deduction, reduction or avoidance of capital gains tax on appreciated property, possible reduction of gift and estate taxes to provide retention of estate principal for your beneficiaries.  We will work with you to determine the most appropriate financial arrangement for you and your situation.

Every gift matters.
