The Potomac-Mecklenburg Garden Club was established in October 1992 when the Potomac Garden Club, the oldest federated garden club in West Virginia, and the Mecklenburg Garden Club merged. Prior to this, both clubs had made vital contributions to Jefferson County by ways of educational programs as well as several beautification projects.
During the past five years, the Potomac-Mecklenburg Garden Club has continued the excellence set by its predecessors. It strives to promote: home and community gardening, the beautification of public places, the protection and responsible propagation of native plants, and the conservation and protection of unique wild areas. Current community projects include a garden at TA Lowery Elementary School, Shepherdstown Library flower boxes and a native woodland planting demonstration at the Cullison Park nature trail near Rumsey Monument.
But the club is also about fellowship and fun with other gardeners, both novice and experienced. It is a place to lean from others and share ideas. Membership is open to those who share an interest in horticulture and gardening. For more information please call Carolyn Thomas at 267-3115.
